How To Pose For Wedding Photos

While you’ve prepared everything to run perfectly on your wedding day, posing for the camera like a supermodel doesn’t always come naturally, and can even be a little daunting. At Marco Island Weddings, we’ve created some tips to help you enjoy the process as well as the photos themselves.

1. Keep your best foot forward. Standing at an angle to the camera will create a flattering (and often more slimming!) picture. Turn towards the person you’re standing with, and put one foot in front of the other to create a more depth and less width.

2. Keep moving. Pictures that include movement have tons of natural style. Walk with your bridesmaids, dance with your flower girl, throw your bouquet around your groom’s neck as you kiss him. The camera will capture the feel of it all.

3. Keep it random. While a few formal poses are fine, try shaking things up a bit in group photos. Have some people sitting while others stand, or use steps for a layered look. Bridesmaids can hold their bouquets in different positions, or have them all looking in varying directions.

4. Keep your posture. Your grandmother’s advice was sound: stand up straight and don’t slouch! When you hold your bouquet front and center, it can cause your shoulders to hunch forward, so try holding them loosely with one hand at hip level for a more relaxed posture with style.

5. Keep smiling. You don’t have to smile in every photo, but it’s good to look inviting, open and welcoming even if you’re not grinning ear to ear. Lift your eyes and cheeks as though you’re about to smile, even if your mouth doesn’t move- it will give your face that energetic, happy appearance as you glow in each shot.

Practicing a few poses before the big day never hurts, and might even help you feel more comfortable in poses that don’t feel natural (but will look great!).
