How to Create a Royal Wedding

Every bride wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day. When you include a bouquet like one of those carried by actual royalty, you really can be a princess for a day. At Marco Island Weddings, we looked into some common factors we noticed among royal brides and their bouquets. Here are some basics that might help you create the perfect, royal look you’re wanting for your beautiful wedding day.

Size Matters

While many royal brides certainly could display enormous cascading blooms of any variety, often princesses and other royal brides opt for small, handheld bouquets that exude dignity, grace, and a simplicity that only the most posh, well-bred brides possess. For example, the white posey carried by Princess Kate was symbolically important- with Lily of the Valley and Sweet William representing England and her groom- yet understated and therefore beautifully classic. While this isn’t the only option, for royal brides or for you, keep in mind that small, simple, and elegant can still speak volumes. Other royal weddings showcase larger, more obvious flowers, like those carried by the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, but these gorgeous cascading blooms are still tasteful while lavish.

Pure White

A beautiful observation we made as we reviewed wedding bouquets was the overwhelming amount of pure white blooms included in royal weddings. This comes as no surprise since white flowers often stand for purity, innocence, and enduring love. These princesses know the symbolism portrayed in the flowers they choose will stand for more than just their own feelings on their wedding day- they represent everything this royal couple stands for as their nation’s leaders. They take their place in history from a stance of new beginnings and fresh optimism. In other words, when it comes to royal flowers, symbolism is everything.

Traditional Is On-Trend

While it’s definitely on-trend to include unique varieties of flowers in your wedding bouquet (and we have definitely promoted this idea often!), a royal princess wedding will include traditional flowers that represent the bride’s royal family, her heritage, or her homeland. Often all three can be found in her bouquet as she maintains ties to her lineage while displaying the traditions that were set before her. For example, the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark included eucalyptus in her bouquet as a nod to her native Australia, while Princess Kate was sure myrtle was woven into her bouquet, since it’s a British royal family tradition.

While there are plenty of amazing flowers and floral designs you can include in your wedding, a royal wedding has a particular look and feel. Tradition, elegance, and simple beauty are all excellent choices for creating the perfect royal wedding feel. If you have a particular princess you hope to emulate for your wedding, or just want to maintain a sense of royalty, start with your wedding flowers.
