Top Wedding Trends for 2022

The last two years saw a lot of couples postponing their wedding due to COVID-19. Now that 2022 is here, there is projected to be a huge surge in the number of weddings taking place this year.  According to projections, an estimated 2.5 million weddings will be held in 2022. This is more than twice the number of weddings held in 2020 and a good deal more than 2.1 million weddings per year pre-pandemic. Weddings that occurred during 2020 and 2021 created trends we’ll continue to see in 2022 and beyond, such as smaller guest lists and more personalized events. For the most part, though, 2022 weddings are ready to move on from pandemic-related nuptials (as much as possible) and celebrate anew. The floral experts at Marco Island Florist – Weddings and Special Events know what’s trending for 2022 weddings and we are sharing them with you!

Curated Guest Lists

A holdover from pandemic era weddings, couples are continuing to keep the guest list on the small side and inviting primarily just close friends and family members. Smaller weddings not only keep the occasion more intimate and personal but also allow for more of the budget to be applied to other things, such as flowers or unique cocktails. The average number of guests for 2022 weddings is expected to range between 35-70 people.

Nature-Inspired Weddings

With limited travel options, many people went outdoors and reconnected with Mother Nature during the pandemic. This renewed interest in nature is showing up big time in 2022. Many weddings are being held outside in botanical gardens, lush landscapes with sweeping views, or grand forests. For indoor weddings, we’re seeing an abundance of flowers and greenery decorating the interior.

Quality over Quantity

Rather than large weddings in large spaces, and a large number of people, couples are downsizing to provide an intimate, personal, and one-of-a-kind experience instead. Smaller guest lists allow couples to offer a more meaningful celebration by focusing on quality, and personal touches such as floral installations, specialty menus, and comfortable seating.

Artful Cakes

Artistic and stunning cakes are back! Donut walls and cupcake stations are in the past. Wedding cakes in 2022 will be dramatic and eyecatching. You’ll see bright colors with showy decorations with many wedding cakes adorned with beautiful fresh flowers or greenery. These striking cakes are more statement pieces than dessert!

Weekday Weddings

With so many weddings from 2020 and 2021 being postponed, 2022 is inundated with people wanting to get married. Most weekend dates are already booked leading many couples to select weekdays for having their wedding. This will probably be the norm for the next several years and can actually be beneficial. Weekday weddings are usually cheaper, and it allows couples to turn their nuptials into a 3-4 day “wedding experience.”

Color Is Back

Muted tones from the past several years are giving away to bolder, brighter colors. From unexpected pops of color to a full-color palette of bright hues,  colorful wedding decor is making a comeback.

Statement Details

The desire to create a memorable and intimate wedding experience is leading couples to include unique statement details such as vintage furniture, antiques, and stunning floral installations. These thoughtful touches are meant to be a reflection of the bride and groom’s personalities as well as to enhance the guest’s experience.

Naturally Styled Fresh Flowers

A trend florists are starting to see for 2022 weddings is organic and natural, loosely-styled flowers. Placed on tables, reception areas, or even hanging from the ceiling, naturally draped florals are becoming popular. So too are floral wall installations as a focal point or gorgeous photo backdrop.

Bridgerton Inspiration

The style and decor seen in the Netflix series, Bridgerton, are starting to make their way into 2022 weddings. Along with it comes plenty of romance and glamour. Couples are seeking out historic architectural structures and grand ballrooms adorned with lavish fresh blooms as well as the overall Regency-era theme so brides can indulge their inner princess.

We are a fan of all these wedding trends and expect they will stick around well beyond 2022. After all, natural elements, personal touches, and an experience to remember are what all weddings should be about. For all your wedding and event floral needs, Marco Island Florist is here to help.
